Get Comfortable in Your Own Skin: Maria Sharapova’s Take On Beauty

Athletes, like tennis champion Maria Sharapova, are performers. They command a stage — or rather, a playing field or court — in front of thousands of spectators and must give each and every appearance their all. What is it like to be under the world’s lens? We spoke with Maria Sharapova to find out.

Maria talks about the importance of feeling comfortable in her own skin when she’s competing. “It can all be overwhelming,” she says, which is all the more reason to make sure you’re looking and feeling your best. She describes how natural beauty can come from simple things like getting enough sleep. Off the court, Ms. Sharapova is just like many of us, who rely on a spritz of fragrance, like Avon Luck for Her, or an extra coat of mascara for that last, confidence-boosting “finishing touch” before we walk out the door. But ultimately, she says, “we all have flaws and we all make mistakes and we’re never perfect in all the things we do. We have to work to be the best. But overall, it’s the expression of natural beauty and your personality that’s the most important message.”
